In the Monkey Lab you can research items such as increased popping power, attack speed and increased health among other things. There actually aren't any in app purchases to be found, but you can spend "cash" and "tokens" in the store and lab to improve your chances against some of the more difficult levels. Each level you play through has multiple difficulty levels to unlock and greater monetary rewards to use in the shop. It's a vicious cycle.īloons TD 5 has quite a lot of replay value. As you continue through the levels you will find larger and larger blimps that give birth to more blimps once they have been dealt with. Then there are, literally, the mother of all balloons - blimps! Blimps take a lot to take out, and when you do take them out they burst into an explosion of more balloons. Even more balloons will automatically heal themselves after a time if you don't take them out quickly enough. Some balloons are impervious to darts, as well, and can only be taken out by blunt force weapons (hooray for boomerangs and glaives - yes, Krull fans, freaking GLAIVES!). Then, to make things even more interesting you will find that some balloons are camouflaged and can only be seen by (initially, at least) by Ninja monkeys. It is when different colored balloons begin to show up, each concealing another color balloon, that you need to worry. They start out fairly innocuous and easy to defeat, a single dart per balloon. The balloons that you are targeting are, naturally, not your standard run of the mill balloons. Each upgrade has an associated cost, and some are significantly more than others, so budget accordingly. But no cybernetic sun good, unfortunately. As an example, with the Super Monkey you can upgrade his ammunition to sun god status….or you could turn him into a plasma hurling cyborg super monkey. Every tower that you place has a couple of upgrade paths to go along, although once you have gone up to the third level in one path you are locked into that particular upgrade path. It's not all just a barrel of monkeys, though, you will also have dart turrets, cannons, planes, helicopters, village huts and other various items to place around each map.Īs you decimate balloons and earn money you can either purchase more monkey's to place around the path or opt to upgrade individual monkeys/towers. You have your basic dart throwing monkey, a boomerang throwing monkey, a ninja monkey, a wizard monkey, on and on and on. You may be wondering at this point what kind of towers are going to take out those deadly balloons? In this case you will be in control of placing cute, adorable little monkeys along the path, each armed with some method of popping balloons. You just need to place towers along the path the take out the balloons as quickly as possible. You will also be armed with the foreknowledge of where the balloons will be coming from (indicated by a red arrow), and you will most generally also know where they are going due to the path already being laid out on the screen. In Bloons TD 5, the enemy in this case are a group of evil balloons that must be dwelt with swiftly and viciously. I mean, how could you not like a tower defense game in which the mortal enemy is a pack of balloons! Armed with my interested to play a game of Bloons, I had absolutely no problem plunking down the cash for the latest Humble Mobile Bundle.Įvery tower defense game has the same basic idea: destroy every enemy object that attempts to make its way through to your base. That said, I had always heard excellent things about Ninja Kiwi's Bloons series of tower defense games. I have always found the path based TD games to be lacking and limited for some reason. Generally, I prefer my tower defense games to let me decide the path that the enemy will take, maze building, if you will.
